When planning our trip to the Lofoten Islands, we knew we wanted to stay somewhere that felt both scenic and central. A place where we could wake up to mountain views and be close to all the iconic photo spots, Reinefjorden Sjøhus turned out to be exactly that.

In this review, we’ll share our honest thoughts on staying here; what we loved, what to know before you book, and whether it’s worth adding to your Lofoten itinerary.

Where is Reinefjorden Sjøhus?

Reinefjorden Sjøhus is located just outside the village of Hamnøy, just a couple of minutes’ drive from Reine - one of the most iconic and picturesque spots in all of Lofoten. The cabins sit right on the edge of the fjord, with uninterrupted views across the water towards the rugged peaks of Hamnøy.

The location is perfect for exploring the western tip of Lofoten; you'll find some of the region’s most beautiful hikes, photo spots and small fishing villages just a short drive away. It’s also just a few minutes from local supermarkets and petrol stations, so it's a convenient yet peaceful base.

Cabin Types at Reinefjorden Sjøhus

There are a few different cabin types at Reinefjorden, some are traditional rorbuer-style fishermen’s cabins, some are in an apartment style, and there are some newer cabins on the waterfront, but they all have that distinctive red cabin look.

  • Seahouse Damperiet - 4 apartments ranging from 2-6 beds
  • Seahouse Tørrfiskbrygga - 2 apartments with 4 beds
  • Seahouse Klippfiskbrygga - 2 seaview apartments with 4 beds
  • Fisherman's Cabins - 5 sea front cabins ranging from 4-6 beds
  • Væreiergården (main house) - Big house with 6 bedrooms
  • Deluxe Studios - 4 sea front cabins with one bed

Inside, the cabins are warm, spacious and well-designed. Some apartments and cabins have large glass windows and balconies with panoramic views of the fjords and mountains!

We stayed in Seahouse Damperiet 1, which had 3 bedrooms and could sleep up to 6. Our cabin had a cosy living area, a fully equipped kitchen, a clean and modern bathroom, a loft style area and a spacious balcony with incredible views.

Most cabins have a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook your own meals, including an oven, stove, fridge, kettle and all the basic utensils.

Bathrooms are modern with good showers, and there’s great heating throughout the cabin. Wi-Fi is included and worked well for us during our stay. Parking is free and right next to the cabins, and the check-in process was easy and smooth.

Facilities

One of the newest additions to Reinefjorden Sjøhus is their waterfront saunas with large glass windows, so you have perfect views of the fjord and mountains while unwinding!

You have direct access to the fjord, so if you're brave enough, you can dip straight into the water after a sauna session.

Reinefjorden Sjøhus also has a private dock with three boats you can rent out to explore the water and go fishing, you'll need to have experience and possibly a boat licence though.

The Location & Surroundings

As I mentioned before, Reinefjorden Sjøhus is located in the tiny village of Hamnøy, which is right by Reine. It’s hard to explain just how stunning this area is, it's something you'll have to experience for yourself!

It’s a great base for exploring Lofoten, within a 10–20 minute drive, you can reach some of Lofoten’s best hiking trails like Reinebringen and Kvalvika Beach / Ryten, as well as charming villages like Sakrisøy, Å, and Sørvågen.

Just a couple steps away you'll find the tiny villages of Hamnøy and Sakrisøya, both stunning and filled with iconic photo spots, like the Hamnøy Bridge and iconic yellow house!

There’s also a petrol station and small supermarket in Reine for picking up food and essentials. Despite being close to everything, the area around Reinefjorden Sjøhus feels peaceful and remote, which is the perfect balance for a road trip base.

Things to Know Before You Book

  • Minimum Stay: There’s often a 2-night minimum stay, especially during peak season.
  • Book Early: This place books out quickly, especially the waterfront cabins, so we’d recommend booking a few months in advance if you’re visiting during summer or the Northern Lights season.
  • Bring Groceries: While there are shops nearby in Reine, opening hours can be limited (especially on Sundays), so it’s worth picking up some essentials before arriving.
  • Is a Car Necessary?: A car isn't necessary but we would recommend having one. There are a few nearby restaurants, but shops and activities aren't walking distance. You can get buses, but it's more difficult to get around - not impossible though!

Final Thoughts

Reinefjorden Sjøhus is honestly one of our favourite places we have ever stayed, it's such a magical location with stunning cabins that feel like home - we didn't want to leave!

The highlights for us were the stunning views of the fjord and mountains from the balcony and large glass windows, the cosy design of the cabin and the unique loft style layout.

The location couldn’t have been better either. It’s peaceful and remote, yet still close to the best hiking trails, villages and activities in Lofoten.

We highly recommend booking a stay here for your Lofoten trip, we will 100% return here when we next visit Lofoten. Just make sure to book early, as this place is in high demand!
